HI there…
I am Katie Kiosses, and this is my blog about ehtno-mathematics, ehtno..what?? Yeh, I’ve had that question a lot since starting this research, but if you explore through my blog site, I am certain you will start to understand what the term means, and come to really appreciate it like I sure have!
Back to me, I am a student completing my masters degree in teaching and I currently have one more semester to go, a 2 month placement, a lot of lesson plans, teaching experiences, maybe a couple breakdowns, assessments to complete, and voila, degree finished!
Twelve years ago I completed a masters in personal training certificate and since then I have been very active in the health and fitness industry. Five years ago I also completed my first degree in a Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Sciences. Since then I have worked with a range of people, my favourites being athletes as they really strive for their goals and achieve some fantastic results. I have worked with Mauy Thai fighters nationally and internationally, marathon runners, surf life savers, football, netball and soccer teams and currently I am also the Head Trainer and Studio Manager of an F45 studio focussing on functional workouts. I do also work with the AFL Aboriginal Academies at the Port Adelaide Football Club where I focus on in-class learning in lifestyle, training, nutrition, disease, health and the list goes on.
I decided to take on the Masters of Teaching degree and major in HPE, with a minor in science, because I could extend and develop the knowledge and skills I already have with working with adults for the past decade, and take that to a different audience, and that being high school kids.
I am also developing my knowledge about mathematics, and of course specifically ethno-mathematics, while I produce this blog, which will continuously be expanding as I research and find more exciting concepts to add!
I hope you enjoy reading through the blog, and learn some wonderful aspects about ethno-mathematics with me…

getting into some post-football game nutrition.
